Lowell Hoover Obituary

Lowell E. Hoover, 92, of Carterville, went home to be with his Lord and his beloved wife on December 7, 2023, which would have also been their 72nd wedding anniversary. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and was dedicated to caring for his many animals.

Lowell was born on March 9, 1931, in Carterville, to Arlie and Gladys Hoover. He married the love of his life, Alice Mae Rowland on December 7, 1951, and they shared 69 amazing years together. They devoted themselves solely to their family and home.

Lowell worked the majority of his professional life for Norge in research and development and was very proud of his work. Lowell and Alice also owned Idle Hour Ceramic Shop and Buds and Bows with his daughter and son-in-law, Terri & Terry Hanley, in Carterville. Lowell was also a member of the Masonic lodge in which he held several positions including a Past Master.

Lowell was very devoted to his faith and to Love and Truth Church in Crainville. He also had an intense passion for animals and went to great lengths to care for all those that walked into his life.

Lowell is survived by his daughter, Terri L. Hanley and son-in-law, Terry L. Hanley from Carterville, daughter, Babe Hoover from Carterville; grandchildren, Benjamin Hanley (fiancé Tabitha Marz) of Herrin, Seth Hanley of Carterville, Elyse Calhoun (partner Jade Wilson) of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Makenna Hanley, Thomas Hanley and Mia Hanley; sister, Annabelle Fogle of Herrin; and his best friend and partner in many adventures, Bob McGrew.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice; his parents, Arlie and Gladys; baby brother, Hyland Lee; and brother-in-law, Goble Fogle.

Memorial donations can be made to Love and Truth Church, 1201 Marion Street, Carterville, IL 62918, or to the Victory Dream Center Food Pantry, 607 E. College, Carbondale, IL 62901.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Wynn officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
