Linda L. (Sanders) Hawkins

Linda Hawkins, 80, of Herrin, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at her daughter’s home.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Blairsville Cemetery, with Pastor Ivan Ryan officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to Residential Hospice.

Linda was born June 20, 1943, in Carbondale, to Lindsey and Beulah (Ferguson) Sanders. She married Curt Hawkins, and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2019.

She is survived by her daughter, Tami Peldo of Marion; sons, Lee (Jamie) Newberry of Milan, Illinois, and Chad (Brittany) Newberry of Rock Island, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lily Arlene Hayden and Shelby “Sally” Winfield, both of Carbondale; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Sanders of Steeleville; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Gary Peldo; sister, Lowanda Cheatham; and brother, Loren “Flea” Sanders.

She was the manager at Dollar General in Marion for over 20 years.

Linda enjoyed going dancing and to the casino and traveling.

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville assisted the family with arrangements.
