Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Morris, 77, of Carterville, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2021, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. COVID-19 restrictions apply and facial coverings must be worn.

Kenny was born July 7, 1943, in Pittsburg, Illinois, to Earl Kenneth and Clara (Fox) Morris. He married Norma Mae O’Daniell on June 16, 1968, in Marion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Norma Morris of Carterville; daughter, Rhonda Morris-Newman of Johnston City; son, Randy (Dawn) Morris of Carterville; grandchildren, Damian (Kristen) Burnett of Johnston City, Destiny (Tracey) Israel of Ohio, Shelby (Kyle) Parks of Herrin, Jacob Morris (Zoe Jensen) of Carterville; great-grandchildren, Madison, Autumn and Aubree Burnett, Alex and Leliana Israel, and Gideon Parks; nephew, Kenneth Edwards; plus, many extended family and friends.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Anthony Ryan Morris; and sister, Linda Smith.
He honorably served our country in the United States Army.
Kenny was a coal miner at Freeman United 4 for over 16 years where he was fondly known as “Big Bird”. He also worked at Maytag for 11 years before retiring.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go fishing and squirrel hunting. Kenny also took great pride tending to his yard.
