Kenneth Leon Irvin, 87, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral in Carterville, with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Kenneth was born January 26, 1936, in Cobden, to Olice and Shirley (Jenkins) Irvin. He married Janice K. Hennon on March 31, 1984, in Carterville. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2006.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Fred) Rickart; sons, Kenneth Irvin, and Chad (Angela) Irvin; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; and sister, Aline Cross.
He honorably served our country in the United States Army overseas in Panama.
Kenneth worked for the Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights for 15 years. He then worked at Inland Steel-Consol Coal Mine in Sesser.
He was a member of the Herrin V.F.W. Baker-Ladd Post 1567, Herrin American Legion Post, and the Marion Elks Lodge.
Kenneth was a sports car and corvette enthusiast who also enjoyed fishing.
