Joyce Ann Samuel, 73, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Graveside services will follow at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to an Animal Rescue.
Joyce was born on January 20, 1945, in Marion, to James Cotton and Hilda Mae (LaBotte) Stanley. She married Donald Ward "Cotton" Samuel on April 7, 1962, in Marion. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana (James) Eldridge of Herrin; sons, Steve (Karen) Samuel and Mike (Sherri) Samuel, all of Carterville; grandchildren, Tony Abell (fiancée, KD Guetersloh), Ashly (Emily) Abell, Dalton Samuel (fiancée, Kelly Hart) , and Dylan Samuel; great-grandson, Douglas Abell; step-brother, Dennis (Ellie) Howard of Kansas; brother-in-law, Dave (Marie) Samuel of Carterville; and sister-in-law, Jeanine Jones of Carterville.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald "Cotton" Samuel; and son-in-law, Steven Abell.
She retired after 41 years of dedicated service as the student supervisor at Carterville Intermediate School.
Joyce loved cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. She wrapped her life around her family, especially her grandkids.
She enjoyed the outdoors and was always seen out walking her beloved dog, Sylvie.
