Joseph "Joe" Johnson, 77, of Carrier Mills and formerly of Herrin, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020, at Herrin Hospital.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 18, 2020, at Herrin City Cemetery, with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating.
Joe was born on July 19, 1943, in Joppa, Illinois, to Clifford and Doris (Baccus) Johnson. He married Sharon Nell McGhee on July 14, 1967, in Johnston City. She preceded him in death on September 22, 2020.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebellie (Kim) Beavers of Carterville; granddaughters, Macey (Kyle) Rumsey of Carterville and Carrie (Josh) Christmas of Nashville, Tennessee; grandson, Justin Beavers of Nashville, Tennessee; great-granddaughter, Hartlan Jo Rumsey of Carterville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon; daughter, Shari M. Lane; brothers, Ross and Clifford "Junior" Johnson.
Joe owned and operated Exit Arcade and T-Shirt Shop in Herrin for many years.
He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army.
The most important thing in Joe's life was his family, but he also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and a Southern Illinois Miners' fan.
