Joseph Virruso Obituary

Joseph Thomas Virruso, 81, of Herrin, and formerly of Chicago and Cicero, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at Herrin Hospital.

Private interment will take place at Concordia Cemetery in Forrest Park, Illinois.

Joseph was born July 31, 1939, in Chicago, to Joseph Thomas and Eleanor (Kokoska) Virruso. He married Christine Naomi Spencer on April 11, 1968, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1998.

Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph (Angela) Virruso and granddaughter, Sarah Virruso, all of Herrin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant son; sisters, Joan Karsner, Doris Mrozek and Valerie Bruen; and grandson, Joseph “Joey” Virruso Jr.

Joseph was an artist for Western Electric Company in Cicero, where he painted signs, murals, posters, and made special retirement plaques.

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements.
