Jon Heider Obituary

Jon Blane Heider, 66, of DeSoto, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, with his family and Pastor by his side.

Jon was born September 25, 1953, in St. Louis, to Carlton and Evelyn (Grabow) Heider. He married Martha Terry on June 2, 1990, in Carterville.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Heider, of DeSoto; son, Daniel (Delaina) Coomer of Lick Creek; grandchild, Madelyn Jo Coomer; siblings, Dennis (Monica) Heider, Carlyn (Robert) Reed, Richard (Debbie) Heider, Barb Heider, and Ernie Heider.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents.

Jon attended the University of Missouri-Rolla, studying Civil Engineering and later attended Southeast Missouri University, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management.

He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 25 years of service as an asphalt quality control inspector.

Jon had many hobbies that showed his love of the outdoors. A few he enjoyed most were hunting, fishing, and gardening. Jon had a passion for Homesteading and building things with his own hands. Believing in building rather than buying; growing foods rather than grocery stores. Jon was always one for talking and could get lost in conversation about "the way things were when I was a child".

Jon was a member of Grace Bible Church in Carterville. Jon surrounded himself with believers and cherished their fellowship. He believed and would ask you to remember Romans 8:28, "all things work together for the glory of God to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose". Also, Ephesians 2:8-9, "by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the grace of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast".

He will forever be remembered for his big booming laugh and his larger-than-life presence to all who loved him.

Private family services will be held with Pastor Chuck Kuhn officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
