Johnny Harvill Obituary

Johnny Oliver Harvill, 83, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2025, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastors Michael Agapito and Jeff Wiggs officiating.

Johnny was born on February 24, 1942, in Bonnie, Illinois, to Lloyd Oliver and Ella Fay (Slamans) Harvill. He married Linda Louise Meneese on November 8, 1990, in Williamson County.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Harvill; daughters, Christina Ann (Josef) Stambulski and Sharon Fay (Scot) Costa; step-son, Joseph Zachary Hawk; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Lence, Erika Stambulski, Erin Stambulski, Colby Oliver Rogers, Justin Nicarry, Ryan Hawk, Mason Hawk, and Madilyn Hawk; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Aurora, and Josef Stambulski, and Fiadh Nicarry; brothers, Kevin (Terri) McLaughlin and Randy (Kim) McLaughlin; and sister, Barbara (Jim) Harrigan; plus nieces and nephews.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jay Oliver Harvill; and step-son, Rollie Hawk.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army. Johnny worked as a construction laborer with Local 773 for over 30 years. He was a devoted member of Crainville Baptist Church, where he found great joy in reading his Bible and living out his faith.

An avid outdoorsman, Johnny enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hiking. He was a proud member of the Crab Orchard Boat and Yacht Club and loved spending time around the water. He had a passion for horses and looked forward each year to attending the Sikeston Rodeo. Known for his playful spirit, Johnny loved to joke and tease those around him, bringing laughter wherever he went. In his younger years, Johnny was involved in the motorcycle community, participating in hill climbs and scrambles—always chasing adventure and speed. He carried that same spirit throughout his life, never losing his sense of fun.

Known for his playful nature, Johnny had a knack for joking and teasing, bringing laughter and warmth to those lucky enough to know him. His memory will continue to bring smiles for years to come.
