John Louis Rosenberger, 72, of Elkton, Florida, and formerly of Carterville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his brother's home in Carterville. He was born on April 30, 1952, in Herrin, to Bill and Betty (Tregoning) Rosenberger.
John was a proud graduate of Carterville High School, Class of 1969. After graduating, John served with the Illinois National Guard in the 1970’s. He pursued a career in law enforcement, studying at John A. Logan College and later serving as a Transportation Security Officer with Homeland Security. More recently, John held the role of BSA at the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Department in Florida.
John spent several years running and operating both the Pin Oak Motel and Lounge and the Crab Orchard Lake Campground, earning the respect and friendship of countless patrons and visitors.
An avid outdoors enthusiast, John found joy in hunting and fishing. He especially loved hunting wild hogs in Florida and whitetail deer in southern Illinois. John cherished the time spent outdoors, enjoying the beauty of nature and the thrill of the hunt.
John is survived by his son, Marshall Rosenberger; brothers, Joe and Jim Rosenberger; nieces, Zena Rosenberger, Shanna Rosenberger, and Ashley Rosenberger; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Beverly Rosenberger.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
