John McCoy Obituary

John Harrison McCoy, 88, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020, at the CLC at the Marion VA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with David Bloodworth officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Activity Department at Marion VA CLC Unit.  

John was born March 10, 1931, in Carterville, to Dallas Harrison and Bessie (Howerton) McCoy. He married Linda Jean Bearden on August 17, 1978, in Marion.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Jean McCoy, of Carterville; daughters, Melinda (Bradley) King of Mountain View, Missouri, and Tonya Kay Dodson of Carterville; sons, Randy McCoy of Crab Orchard and Bryan (Cynthia) Bradley of Valparaiso, Indiana; grandchildren, Casey Jo Kurtz, Cheyenne (Michael) Taylor, Ashley R. Wise, Shawn (Cherry) M. Wise, and Kyle Dodson; 10 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during both Korea and Vietnam.

John was a barber who owned McCoy Barber Shop for many years. He also owned M & M Enterprises in Carterville.

He was a member of the Williamson County Masonic Lodge #802.

John was a member of White Ash Community Church.

He enjoyed fishing and boating on Crab Orchard Lake.
