Marion
John D. Harvel, 78, of Marion, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center in Marion, with his family by his side.
John was born on October 2, 1946, in Herrin, to Carl Monroe and Mildred Verba (Brayfield) Harvel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Gilles Mercier; granddaughter, Ellie Grace Palmer; and many dear friends.
John honorably served his country in the National Guard for six years.
John owned and operated Harvel Appraisal Service in Marion for many years. He dearly loved his community, his colleagues and all his buddies. He built a reputation of integrity over the years and served as a mentor to many appraisers in the area. His kindness, sincerity, and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
John was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He also loved to cheer on his beloved Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals.
John’s wish was to be cremated, and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
