CARTERVILLE
John Wayne Frost, 70, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Daryl Varble officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

John was born August 13, 1952, in Herrin, to Leon W. and Catherine (Bean) Frost. He married Kimbra C. Kirk on June 24, 2000, in Carterville.
He is survived by his wife, Kimbra Frost of Carterville; children, Chris (Michelle) Frost, Kevin (Heather) Frost, Dawn (Greg) Kerrigan, and Kelsey Frost (Justin Hall); grandchildren, Alex Harms, J.C. Frost, Fiala Cox, Pepper Largent, Nivek Frost, Catyleya Hall, Brandon Kerrigan, McKayla Kerrigan, and Karlee Kerrigan; great-grandchildren, River Largent, Oliver Largent, and Amelia Largent.
John was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Leon W. Frost; granddaughters, Catherine and Samantha Frost; and great-grandchild, Baby Cox.
John served our community with the Carterville Police Department with numerous years of dedicated service involving patrol, D.A.R.E., Detective, and retiring as Assistant Chief of Police. He served as a dispatcher for Herrin Police as well as serving as an EMT. He also worked for Energy Fire & Police Department, and at Freeman Spur Police Department. He had also worked for Williamson County as a Civil Process Server and Courthouse Security.
He also served as the minister at Pittsburg Baptist Church for several years.
He was a member of the Grand Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
John also belonged to the Illinois Police Association-FOP Lodge #197 and enjoyed playing pool; fishing; camping; and traveling.
The most important part of John’s life was his family, and he will be deeply missed.
