Joe E. Baxter Jr.

Joe Edwin Baxter Jr., 59, of Carterville, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Herrin Hospital.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022, in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Rev. Frances Cook officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Joe was born March 9, 1963, in Carbondale, to Joe Edwin and Linda Carol (Smith) Baxter Sr. He married Sharon Walker in Carterville, on August 31, 1991.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe is preceded by his parents and brother.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army.

From a teenager on, Joe started working as an auto technician alongside his father. He was a talented auto motive technician, working in many dealerships throughout southern Illinois, achieving the title of ASE Master Auto Technician. In 2006, Joe opened up JAMM (Joe’s American Modify Muscle) and retired in 2015. Through the years, Joe was always working on a project car of some kind.

Joe’s passion was with cars, but he also was an animal lover who enjoyed shooting pool, going fishing, and listening to music.
