Jim Liddell, 80, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, at his home.
Jim was born July 22, 1941, to Louella Ward. He married Donna George on September 29, 1962. Before her passing, they shared 57 years of marriage.
Jim was a graduate of the Carterville High School Class of 1959. He began his career in the coal industry and later retired from GTE/Verizon after 27 years of service.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, antiquing, and camping. He was an avid fan of Carterville Lions Athletics and the Alabama Crimson Tide. For many years, Jim and Donna were snowbirds and looked forward to their annual trip to Foley, Alabama. They also visited many campsites with their best friends Eddie & Betty Outland and Bill & Dorothy Swalls.
Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Traci Liddell; grandchildren, Ashley (Zach) Whitecotton, Derrik (Ashley) Liddell, Paige (Brad) Thornton, and Zack (fiancée Maggie) Liddell; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Kinlee, Lyla, Kennedy, Nora, Audrey, and a baby girl arriving soon; and brother TJ (Kathy) Liddell.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; son, Kevin Liddell; mother, Louella Ward; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim & Maxine George.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 1, 2022, at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastor Matt Brown officiating.
The preferred form of remembrance is memorial contributions made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959 or to First Christian Church, 203 Virginia St., Carterville, IL 62918. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
