Jessie P. Davis

Jessie P. Davis, 83, of Creal Springs, and formerly of Carterville, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Donnie Colson officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jessie was born December 2, 1939, in Bush, to Charlie and Eloise (Corhan) Davis. He married Rose Etta Myers on June 14, 1958, in Carterville. Together they have shared 65 wonderful years.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Davis of Creal Springs; daughter, Cindy (Jim) Anderson; grandchildren, Caroline Warner, and Justin Anderson (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Alivia, Eleanor, Reid, Bryleigh, Whinry, Ruby, and Fisher; sisters, Marylen Tuttle and Sarah Baxter; and several nieces and nephews.

Jessie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dewell, Alan, Charles, Lila May, Addie Lou, Zora, and Ozina.

He retired from Tuck Tape after 24 years of service.

In his younger days, Jessie enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to tinker on lawn mowers and repair television sets. If anyone needed help fixing something, they knew to come see Jessie.  Jessie also had quite the green thumb when it came to gardening and his turnip patch! Folks knew they were always welcome to help themselves to his turnips.

Jessie may have only had one child, but he helped raise many kids over the years. His everyday presence will be greatly missed.
