Jacqueline “Jackie” Ray Hess, 74, of Cambria, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Wynn officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Animal Shelter or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jackie was born on September 26, 1951, in Carbondale, to Gloria Sylvia (Spees) and Cecil Ray Baker. She married James “Jim” Lowell Hess on May 16, 1981, in Cambria. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2025.
She is survived by her daughter, Treva Hess (Craig Craig); grandchildren, Xander James and Lennart Grant Craig; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Darla Smith, Randy Hess, and David (Cindy) Hess; sister, Beverly Applegate; and beloved dog, Rosie.
Jackie was preceded in death by parents; husband; and stepfather, Albert Zukosky.
She was a library assistant for Shawnee Library for over 30 years, retiring in 2009.
Jackie enjoyed reading, and had a deep love for animals. She found great joy in spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Jackie will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met.
