James "Skin" A. Halstead, 80, of Carterville, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, surrounded by his family.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Michael Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Carterville Community Pantry.
Skin was born April 22, 1938, in Carterville, to Paul and Ethel Mae (Bridges) Halstead. He married Kathleen "Kathy" Pate on August 25, 1984, in Carterville.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Halstead of Carterville; daughter, Mindy (Jim) Musumeci of Weston, Massachusetts; son, Chris Moak of Orlando; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Karl) Mackenbach, Zach Tripp, Elysia Moak, Chris Moak Jr., and Hanna Moak; great-grandchildren, Victoria Mackenbach and Isabelle Mackenbach; sisters, Paula (Orval) Bogard and Sally (Gary) McCluskey, all of Carterville; sister-in-law, Kay Threlkeld of Carterville; brother-in-law, Mike Pate of St. Louis; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many dear friends.
Skin was preceded in death by his parents and Gary Lee Halstead.
He retired in April of 2000, after 22 years of service with Diagraph. Skin worked on the stencil cutting machine and customer repair service.
He was an avid golfer, having belonged to the "11 o'clock" group at Crab Orchard Golf Course. Skin also loved to go fishing and was a member of the Carterville Boat and Yacht Club.
Skin's greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
