James Reginald Briggance Obituary

James Reginald “Reggie” Briggance, 67, of Marion, joined Heaven to live with God, his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born to James C. and Geraldine “Jeri” Briggance at the Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky, on May 3, 1957. Reggie married the love of his life, Paula S. (Smith) Patrick in Herrin on October 15, 2005.

Reggie is survived by soulmate, Paula Briggance; step-sons, Ryan (Julie) Patrick of Johnston City, Illinois, and Eric Ross Patrick (fiancée, Morgan) of Springfield, Illinois; step-grandchildren, Rylie (Daniel) Nation and Charlie Patrick; sister, Denise (Mark) Bucholt; nieces, Bobbi (Tim) Rice and Becky (Ben) Gollan; nephews, Robert Tripp, Marty Stickler; step-niece, Carrie (Roets) Waller; step-nephew, Christopher Roets; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy (Roets) Farr, Milford Farr, and Terry (Linda) Morrison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Brenda Morgan; niece, Carrie Werner; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Velma and Truman Smith.

Reggie had worked for National Learning Systems as an audio-visual salesman. He sold to many area churches, colleges, multiple music venues, and businesses, both nationally and internationally.

Reggie had a heart of gold and was known for never meeting a stranger. He was well read and could speak to anyone in any situation. He loved woodworking, but his passion was woodturning. He had belonged to a wood turning club in Evansville, Indiana.

He not only loved being a member of the Second Baptist Church of West Frankfort, Illinois, Reggie loved all of his church friends.

He loved music of all genres and had always hoped to visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame one more time.

His family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Herrin Hospital, Helia Healthcare in Energy, and United Ambulance Service for their great care of Reggie.

Per Reggie’s wishes, no services will be held. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville assisted the family with cremation services.
