James “Jim” Lowell Hess, 78, of Cambria, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Herrin Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Wynn officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Animal Shelter.
Jim was born March 24, 1946, in Herrin, to Gilbert Carl and Janis Ferrol (Ross) Hess. He married Jacqueline “Jackie” Baker on May 16, 1981, in Cambria.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Hess of Cambria; daughter, Treva Hess of Carterville; siblings, Darla Smith of Carterville, Randy Hess of Carterville, and David (Cindy) Hess of Jeffersonville, Indiana; plus several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and beloved dog, Rosie.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jolene Grissom, and infant sister, Wanda Sue Hess.
He retired from Tuck Tape in 2004 after a dedicated career that began in 1966. His strong work ethic and commitment to his job left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the company.
A man of faith, Jim faithfully attended Love & Truth Church.
An avid bowler, he was a valued member of the Senior League and accomplished the remarkable feat of bowling four perfect games in his lifetime, a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.
A lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Jim rarely missed a game and loved cheering for them.
He had a passion for fishing and spent many peaceful hours enjoying the tranquility of nature. He also loved the camaraderie of throwing horseshoes with friends.
