James “Jim” Wendell Futrell, 81, of Carbondale, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
A celebration of life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.

Jim was born October 15, 1940, in Carterville, to Floyd and Bertha (Jackson) Futrell. He married Linda Jolly on December 21, 1962, in Murphysboro. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2010.
He is survived by his son, Jason Futrell (Michelle Krcmar) of Carbondale; grandchildren, Nick Sanders (Stephanie Hudson), Sarah Sanders, Caleb, Lauren, and Madison Futrell; and son-in-law, Matt Sanders.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife; daughter, Tracy Sanders; brothers, Gene Futrell, Thomas Futrell, and William “Bill” Futrell; sisters, Sara Collins, Bonnie Mae Thomas, and Lucy Oberheu.
He was a laborer with the Local Laborers #773 and had just received his 60 year pin. Jim had previously served as the business agent for the Laborers Union.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors-hunting and fishing and playing fastpitch softball in his earlier days. He loved watching John Wayne and Audie Murphy Westerns. Jim’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family and cheering his son and grandkids on at their softball games.
