James Thomas Brown

James Tommy “Trader Tom” Brown, 73, of Carterville, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023, at Cobden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cobden.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., October 18, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions can be made to the family.

Tommy was born on March 24, 1950, in Herrin, to Mary Helen Brown.

He is survived by his aunt, Ruth Brown; cousins, Jessy Radford, Billy Jeralds, David Jeralds, Johnny Jeralds, Cheyenne (Tieler) Baltzell, Stormy Benton, Brianna Russell, Stephanie Brock, Michael Russell, Faith Wagner Russell, and Christopher Wagner, plus many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Tommy was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Joseph Wemmer, Donald D. Wemmer, and Rex Wemmer; sister, Rose Jeralds; niece, Kaylynn Radford; aunt, Wanda Brown.

He worked odd jobs over the years and was a staple figure fondly known as “Trader Tom” in Carterville.
