Imogene McElroy, 95, of Carterville, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at Manor Court in Carbondale.
Private family services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale at a later date.
Imogene was born March 30, 1926, in Buncombe, Illinois, to Luther and Mamie (Jenkins) Willyard. She married James “Jack” McElroy on August 20, 1946, in Vienna. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Trina (Darrel) Handkins of Carterville and Jim (Teresa) McElroy of Paducah, Kentucky.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers; and three sisters.
She was the co-owner, along with her late husband, Jack, of the Hearing Aid Center in Carbondale for more than 20 years. This was more than a hearing aid business, but a ministry that touched the lives of many-from babies to adults-as they assisted those with hearing loss.
Imogene enjoyed Airstream camping and walking at University Mall in Carbondale with her husband.
