Harry W. Treece, 88, of Carterville, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Private family services with military honors will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Carterville Fire Department.
Harry was born on April 9, 1935, in Cobden, to George Washington and Emma Edna (Bryant) Treece. He married Jula Lea Hughes on October 8, 1953, in Murphysboro. Together they shared 69 wonderful years.
He is survived by his wife, Jula Treece; daughter, Catherine (Arthur) Fager; son, Harry (Jan) Treece II; grandchildren; Matthew (Tiffany) Homoya, Megan Homoya, Adam (Nikki) Fager, Elizabeth Fager; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, June Gee, and Lucy Nadaski.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; 7 sisters.
He honorably served our country as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He owned and operated B & H Trash Service in Carterville for many years.
Harry worked at the Carterville Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring as Fire Chief in 1999. He was an active member of the Coal Belt Fire Protection District.
