Glenn David Gallops, 90, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Diane Rice officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Cundiff Cemetery in rural Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of donor’s choice.
Glenn was born February 3, 1933, in Pensacola, Florida, to Glyn and Ethel (Powell) Gallops. He married Herlinde Dobeneck on June 28, 1961, in Rantoul, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Herlinde Gallops; children, Mike (Katrina) Gallops and Brenda Gallops; grandchildren, Mike Gallops Jr., Kristinia Gallops, Brianna Gallops, Maelena Gallops, Tiffany Gallops, Amelia Henderson, Douglas Henderson, Kristin West-Higgins, Katlynn Knight, and Krashawn (Senia) Knight; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents.
He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force for eleven years.
Following his time in the service, Glenn worked ten years for the coal mines, until their closure.
He was a “Jack of all trades” who enjoyed keeping busy and tinkering outside.
