Geraldine (Vancil) Smith

Geraldine Smith, 99, of Crainville and formerly of Cambria, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020, at Belleair Health Care in Clearwater, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Cody Knapik officiating.  DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO COVID-19, if you plan on attending, facial coverings are required and social distancing yourself from others.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Sun Coast Hospice.

Geraldine was born October 17, 1920, in Colp, to Herman Oscar and Minnie Belle (Brown) Vancil. She married Loyce Clifford Smith on July 3, 1964, in Brookport. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1975.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (David) Hoff of Dunedin, Florida; son, Michael (Betsy) Cundiff of Venice, Florida; brother, R.D. "Sam" (Jean) Vancil of Crainville; grandchildren, Michelle (Richard) Sames of Caseyville, Illinois, Cathy (Dan) Phelps of Stacy, Minnesota, Scott (Dee) Cundiff of Elk River, Minnesota, and Samuel Hoff of Clearwater, Florida; 8 great-grandchildren; and 7 great great-grandchildren.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Cundiff; sisters, Norma Calvert, Freda Browning and Eileen Sterns;  and brothers, Paul and Lloyd Vancil.

She worked for American Magnetics, Sangamon Electric and Olin Corporation.

Geraldine was a member of Crainville Baptist Church.

She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Most of all, Geraldine loved spending time with her family.
