George Hindman McKinney

George Hindman McKinney, age 74, of Carterville, died Friday, December 11, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. 

Private graveside services will be held at McKinney Hill Cemetery in rural Carterville with Pastor Bob Wynn officiating. 

Memorial contributions can be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois, 100 Aviation Drive, Koziara Terminal Suite B, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864

George was born on February 2, 1946 in Carbondale to Lee and Carrie (Myers) McKinney.  He married Sarah Fly on November 24, 1965 in Carbondale. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sarah of Carterville; daughter, Kathy (Brett) Young of Carterville; son, Jim (Betsy) McKinney of Carterville; granddaughter, Amanda Hughes of Carterville; grandson, Will McKinney of Carterville; siblings, Frances Vaughn of Mt. Morris, Illinois , Margaret (Dick) Rushing of Paducah, Mary (Frank) Marolda of Las Vegas, Janet (Morris) McDaniel of Carbondale, Grace (Ron) Herring of Carbondale, Karen (Gary) Steele of La Quinta, California, Donna (Dave) Stull of Murphysboro, Richard (Lois) McKinney of Carterville, Debbie (Danny) Piquard of Murphysboro; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma Habbe, Bonnie Waller and Ruth Sellers; brothers, Clarence, Delbert, Robert, and Harold McKinney.
