Gary Emery, 67, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Bill Klope officiating. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anne West Lindsey District Library in Carterville.

Gary was born on November 18, 1950, in Carbondale, to Billy Lee and Ruby Genelle (Bush) Emery. He married Linda Joyce Kaspar on July 22, 1978, in Marion.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Emery of Carterville; daughters, Jennifer (Jared) Whitehead of Carterville and Jessica (Seth) Clark of Marietta, Georgia; brother, Larry (Diane) Emery of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Gabe and Natalie Whitehead, Abigail Clark, Zac Whitehead, Hunter Clark, and Ben Whitehead; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

He retired in 2004, as a business instructor at Carterville High School.

Gary was a member of Crainville Baptist Church.

He was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
