Gale Sizemore Obituary

Gale Stanley Sizemore, 79, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Judge Randy Moore officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO COVID-19: facial coverings are required; social distancing yourself from others; and refrain from hugging.

 

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Gale was born June 24, 1941, in Herrin, to Julian F. and LaDora (Bishop) Sizemore. He married Gwen Quillman on April 21, 1967, in Trenton, Illinois, and together they have shared over 53 wonderful years.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen Sizemore of Carterville; daughter, Erica (Billy) Gooden; sons, Neil (Tammy) Sizemore, Stephen (Angie) Sizemore, Aaron (Sarah) Sizemore, and Brent (Jen) Sizemore; sister, Tressa (John) Mausey; grandchildren, McKenzie (Ryan) Bonifield, Shane Sizemore, Trent Sizemore, Mallory Sizemore, Karli Sizemore, Tanner Sizemore, Camille (Zach) Halterman, Cole Sizemore, Corene Sizemore, Ian Bogard, and Ali Sizemore; great grandchildren, Trey Bonifield and Blakely Halterman; sister-in-law, Nancy Sizemore; brother-in-law, Clem (Linda) Quillman; and many nieces and nephews.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Sizemore; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl (Lenora) Campanella and Norman (Mary Ellen) Quillman.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army where he served in the Airborne Marksman Unit.  

Gale was a member of IBEW #702 for 50 years, where he began working as a lineman, then working construction, and later retiring after 25 years with CIPS.  Gale's passion in life was being a farmer, raising livestock and grain farming, alongside his family, who were his greatest joy.
