Franklin “Frank” Dee Barnett, 91, of Machesney Park, Illinois, and formerly of Carterville, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the VA Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2024, at East Liberty Cemetery in rural Carbondale, with Pastor Carl Miller officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to East Liberty Cemetery, 9005 Day Road, Marion, IL 62959.
Frank was born October 14, 1932, in Goreville, to Floyd Samuel and Marie (Hudgens) Barnett. He married Jackie Elaine Ellis on June 7, 1952, in Carterville. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2015.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy Baxter, Debbie (John) Feehan, and Lynne Keller; grandchildren, Doug (Kristie) Baxter, Kerrie (Rick) Frick, James Ham, and Jake Keller; great-grandchildren, Drew Baxter, Lance Baxter, and Breanna Frick.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Ralph (Betty) Barnett, and Allen (Una) Barnett; sister, Mari Jane; and son-in-law, Larry Keller.
He honorably served our country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War as a radio operator aboard the USS Monrovia.
Frank worked for the Elgin Sweeper Company for 25 years and then later worked for Larkin Center for 5 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Machesney Park, Illinois, and previously belonged to the Moose Lodge of Elgin.
Frank was an avid golfer, pool and billiards player, and enjoyed bowling leagues. He will be greatly missed.
