Fay Carey, 88, of Colp, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Osage Cemetery in Osage.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Fay was born November 7, 1932, in Blairsville, to Raymond and Luzille (Hudson) Colp. She married William “Bill” Carey, of Hurst, on March 23, 1967, in Herrin.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Carey of Colp; son, Scott Shannon of Marion; granddaughter, Heather Shannon of Sarasota, Florida; and great grandchildren, Michael and Liam.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bradley Shannon; and sister, Peggy Alongi Fogle.
She worked as a dietician for the state of Illinois for many years.
When she was not meeting with her friends at Herrin McDonalds, reading a book, or cooking up something delicious, she could be found offering her eyes as a “site-seeing” shopper for those in need.
Fay had attended the Church of the Open Bible in Belvidere, Illinois. She also supported several radio station ministries, including: Turning Point, Through the Bible-Jay Vernon McGee Ministries, and Faith Mission in Del Rio, Texas.
