Everett Lee Collins, 86, of Carbondale, passed away at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Sunday, March 17, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home, with Pastor Jerry Smith and Pastor Tommy Monroe officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Everett was born in Carbondale, on January 10, 1938, to Mart and Nellie (Williamson) Collins. He married Judith D. Squires on May 22, 1959, in Jackson County, Illinois. Together they shared 64 wonderful years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Collins; sons, Shannon (Christina) Collins, Steven Dale (Vicki Lynn) Collins, Jeff (Jane Roe) Collins; grandchildren, Clifford Collins, Cassie (Sean) Newton, Melissa (Tyler) Wright, Joshua Collins, Bryce Collins; great-grandchildren, Chevi Collins, Evelyn Newton, and Casey Collins.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Henderson, Aline Cox, and Alma Lee Cox; and a great granddaughter, Adalyn Elise Newton.
He was a farmer all of his life who grew corn and beans and raised cattle. Everett also loved to hunt and fish. He, along with his wife, Judy, owned and operated E & J Trucking.
He was a member of Cottage Home Baptist Church.
