Evelyn Louise (Taylor) Clayton

Evelyn Louise Clayton, 77, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family. 

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Dickerson officiating.  Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.   

Memorial contributions can be made to Turning Point Ministries, Dr. David Jerimiah. 

Evelyn was born on October 24, 1946, in Carbondale, to Cleo and Jean Louise (Lauder) Taylor. 

She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Clayton; son, Jeff Clayton; grandchildren, Tabitha Catherine Clayton, Jordan (Rshonda Givens) McGregory, and Donovan Clayton; great-grandchildren, Iris and Zeke McGregory; sisters, Sue and Linda Taylor; brothers, Earl (Margaret) Taylor, Jim (Mary) Taylor and Richard Taylor. 

She was preceded by her parents. 

Evelyn was an Executive Secretary for Pepsi Mid America for over 35 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion.

Evelyn was very proud of her family and loved spending time with her grandson, Jordan, who affectionately called her “Gwanny”.  She enjoyed playing games on her computer and watching crime dramas and nature shows on TV.
