Ethel Anderson Gunter, 99, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
Ethel was born December 10, 1923, in Carterville, to Richard and Carolyn (Proctor) Morgan. Ethel was joined in marriage to William Benjamin Gunter, and they shared many joyful years until his death in 1987.
Ethel worked at several textile factories and also the Gibson Guitar factory in addition to raising her children and tending to her home. Later in life, she spent much of her time helping out with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She became acquainted with characters from the early days of Sesame Street on through the time of Power Rangers and Barney.
Ethel loved the Lord and was a member of East Liberty Christian Church. She loved hymns and could frequently be heard humming and singing the old songs.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Gunter; sisters, Helen Stutsman, Esther Corzine, Grace Rednour, Leoma Dintelman, and Alma Jean Morgan; brothers, John Morgan, Don Morgan, and Cedric Morgan; and great-grandsons, Frankie Morgan, Julian Morgan, Tyler Brooks, and Andrew Brooks.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy A. Morgan of Carterville; son, Jerry (Nancy) Morgan of Roscoe; grandchildren, Jerry Morgan Jr., Jeff Morgan, Janet Greenlee, Kimberly Taylor, and Mark Brooks; 9 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ramona Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Grateful appreciation to the staff of the Memory Care Unit at Parkway Manor for their compassionate and loving care of our dear Mom and Granny. They treated her as family, and we are truly thankful.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastors David Dyer and Jerry Schell officiating. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
