Ellen Lorraine (Winget) Gooden

Ellen Lorraine Gooden, 71, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Carterville Community Center (to help with upgrades and improvements) or to P.A.W.S. in Anna.

Ellen was born July 1, 1952, in Carbondale, to John Abraham and Martha Maxine (Rossin) Winget. She married Gerald Thomas Gooden on August 22, 1969, in Carterville.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Gerald Gooden; daughter, Khrissy (Kendall) Hollister; sons, John (Sabrina) Gooden and Jim Gooden; grandchildren, Jordan (Seth) Howe, Nick (Haylee) Gooden, Chelsea Gooden, Macey (Logan) Halstead, Brittan Hollister (Jamison Bartlow), and Toby Hollister; great-grandchildren, Drew, Wyatt, Aubrey, and Tate; sisters-in-law, Pam Winget, Carolyn Winget, and Brenda Gooden.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Abe Winget and Kenneth Winget; and sister, Vicki Winget.

She was a Dental Assistant to Dr. Vancil for over 30 years.

Her greatest joys were working in her yard, her kids and grandkids, serving her community and feeding all the stray animals and birds she could find. She loved to visit with people and never met a stranger. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.
