Elizabeth "Liz" Winters Obituary

Elizabeth (Liz) Page Winters was born on September 5, 1926 to the union of James Page and Alice Clark Page in Colp, IL.

Liz was the 8th oldest child out of 11 children. She accepted faith at a young age and attended Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church in Colp, IL. Liz attended Colp Township School and her first job was working for Maw Hatchett in her laundry room. At the young age of 15, Liz moved to Chicago, IL. For a large sum of her life, Liz worked as a nurse at Peterson Park Nursing Home. Nursing was her passion as well as caring for her family and friends. Liz loved to cook, hit the slots, and be with her family.

She was united with her husband, Joseph P. Winters, for 36 years. During this union they raised 6 children. Liz was a loving, dedicated and loyal wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Generously, her door was always open and she would give anyone her last. Liz often fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless, and cared for the needy. Liz took pride in her being with her family and enjoyed singing and playing with her grandchildren. She was a mother figure to many. Liz leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters; Rose Timmons (Colp, IL), Judith Timmons (Colp, IL) and Barbara Timmons (Marion, IL), 1 son; Gerald Timmons (Colorado), a host of nieces and nephews and 3 generations of grandchildren, totaling 97. One of which is her exceptional granddaughter, Darletta Timmons, who cared for her until her sunset. Also noteworthy is her nephew, Dr. Steve Meeks.

Preceding her in death was her husband Joseph P. Winters, her son Sylvester Timmons and her daughter Geraldine Jones. She was also preceded by 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and 3 grandchildren: Reggie Timmons, Kenyatta Timmons and Vincent Williams Jr.
