Elizabeth "Betty" Jay (Hock) Gibbs

Elizabeth "Betty" Jay Gibbs, 76, of DeSoto, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at Herrin Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Donnie Colson officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Betty was born December 9, 1943, to Cecil and Maime (Jones) Hock.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela Gibbs of DeSoto, Catherine Gibbs of West Frankfort, and Ruby Harris of Carterville; sisters, Frances Donovan of West Frankfort, Doris Barnard of West Frankfort, and Phyllis Short of Carterville; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, her "adoptive" children, and many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Underwood Gibbs; and brothers, Butch and Ray Hock.

She had worked as a cashier at Checker gas stations in Energy and Marion for over 30 years.
