Edward Stroud Obituary

CARTERVILLE

Edward Leroy Stroud, 88 of Carterville, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Herrin Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 7, 2020 at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville, with the Rev. Brad Harlow officiating, along with military rites being conducted. DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO COVID-19, FACIAL MASKS MUST BE WORN AT THE SERVICE.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or St. Francis Animal Shelter. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.

Edward was born on October 25, 1932, in Watson, Illinois to Gorman Spencer and Julia (Bates) Stroud. He married Frances (Fran) Louise Nicholson on September 24, 1955 in Odin, Illinois, and together they have shared 65 wonderful years.

He is survived by his wife, Fran Stroud of Carterville; daughter, Karla Smith of Crown Point, IN; sons, Jim (Lisa) Stroud of Marion, Ken (Kelly) Stroud of Carterville, Mike (Debbie) Stroud of Carterville; grandchildren, Rachel Stroud of Marion, Emily Stroud of Marion, Georgia Stroud of Carterville, Maddie Stroud of Carterville, Bekah Stroud of Carterville, John Stroud of Carterville, Julia Stroud of Carterville, Jamie (Dan) Cullen of New Lenox, Illinois, Sarah (Dan) MacDonald of Carterville; four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Keegan, Delaney and Riley; brother, Larry (Judy) Stroud of Effingham, Illinois; sister, Evelyn Hennegar of Salem, Illinois; and beloved grand dogs.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herschel “Gene”, Gorman and Joe Stroud; son-in-law, Rick Smith; brother-in-law, Walt Hennegar.

Edward honorably served our country in the United States Army where he served in the 3rd Infantry.

He worked as a Division Engineer for Illinois Central Railroad, working in the Signal Department for 45 years and retiring on July 28, 1995.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
