Dorothy Lucille (Davis) Wright

Dorothy Lucille Wright, 88, of Herrin, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Shawnee Senior Living.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 23, 2024, at Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda, with her grandson, Pastor Alex Sons officiating. 

Dorothy was born on April 11, 1936, in Carbondale, to Willard “Buster” and Genevieve (Bird) Davis.  She married Frankie “Frank” E. Wright in 1969.  He preceded her in death on May 16, 2017.

She is survived by her children, Debbie (Dave) Laffoon, Roger (Donna) Schmitto, Anna Nance, and Beth Hopper; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Alma McCamish, Carol (Gib) Foley, and Ellen Lee; sisters-in-law, Shirley Davis and Kathy Davis. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Bill (Barbara) Davis, Tom Davis, and Donald Davis; and brothers-in-law, Carl Lee and P.D. McCamish. 

Dorothy was an operator on the washing machine line at Norge.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Herrin and had attended Harvest Time Church in Energy.  

She loved to spend her time reading, gardening, and watching crime shows like “Murder She Wrote”, “Perry Mason” and “Columbo”.

Family was the most important aspect of Dorothy’s life.
