Dick E. Carlisle, 83, of Carbondale, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at his home.
Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2021, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home with his grandson, Pastor Jacob Carlisle officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Dick was born July 27, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Benjamin M. and Julia Mary (Houser) Carlisle. He married Donna Jean Barrett on February 4, 1961, in Bloomington. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2010.
He is survived by his sons, Benjamin (Suzanne) Carlisle of Centertown, Missouri, and John (Debbie) Carlisle of Lakeland, Florida; daughter, Julia (Patrick) Arnold of Columbia, Illinois; grandchildren, Nicole Carlisle of Centertown, Missouri, Jacob (Adri) Carlisle of Jefferson City, Missouri, Cody Carlisle of Minot, North Dakota, Jace Carlisle of Lakeland, Florida, and A.J. Arnold of St. Louis; great-grandchildren, Karlee, Gideon, Logan, and Cameron Carlisle; brothers, David (Adriana) Houser of Houston, Texas and James (Terri) Houser of Paducah, Kentucky; sister, Judy (Johnny) Grimm of Ledbetter, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Jason Carlisle; and brother, John Houser.
He honorably served our country in the United States Army.
Dick began his 40-year career as a train conductor with GM&O Railroad then later with ICG Railroad and Amtrak.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carterville.
Dick had many hobbies. He enjoyed spending time making things in his garage, carving guns, creating knife handles and leather sheaths. He was particularly fond of deer hunting and fishing and time he spent at Hook’s Cabin.
