Diane Kay Coale, 83, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2023, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Fr. Mark Reyling officiating. Burial at San Carlo Catholic Cemetery in Herrin will be at a later date. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.
Memorial contributions are the preferred form of remembrance and can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Carterville Food Pantry, or to a charity of choice.
Diane was born to Italian immigrants, Fino Peter and Vienna Elizabeth (Yattoni) Burchie on December 18, 1939, in Litchfield. She graduated from Morrisonville High School and later Brown’s Business College. Diane married David Earl Anderson and he preceded her in death.
She was working for the Illinois Department of Conservation where she met Donald H. Coale, and they married on December 12, 1970. After moving to Carterville, Diane worked for the Carterville Unit 5 School District as a bookkeeper for 20 years and served as the Secretary of the School Board.
Diane faithfully attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, where she served with the Daughters of Mary and helped with funeral meals. She was instrumental in helping to establish Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carterville as a founding member.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Coale of Carterville; children, David (Vickey) Anderson, Dana (Greg) Anderson Talley, Corene (Matt) Mavigliano, and Matt (Michelle) Coale; grandchildren, Chase (Andrea) Anderson, Scott Anderson (Morgan), Nathan Talley, Jessica Talley (Sam), Ashlyn Mavigliano, Isabella Mavigliano, Nicholas (Emma) Coale, Justin Coale, and Jiselle and Ellese Farrow; great-grandchildren, Maddi, Brayden, Brentlee, and Kinley Anderson, Avah and Tytus Anderson, and Aidan Coale; sisters, Rosie (Pat) Davis and Joy (Daryl) McClard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, David E. Anderson; and sisters, Corene Marie and Rose Louise Burchie.
Her family was always her number one priority and the light of her life. She will be missed by many.
