David Wallace Houchins, 56, of Carterville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, after a prolonged illness.
He was born October 13, 1965, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Harry and Ann (Bailey) Houchins. David married Polly Torrey in October 1993, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and she survives.
David is survived by his sons, Stephen Houchins and Marshall Houchins; mother, Ann Houchins; sister, Linda Houchins Rhodes; plus his beloved large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
David honorably served our country in the United States Army in Military Intelligence, stationed in Pensacola, Florida and Panama.
He was employed as a telecommunications Specialist for FEMA, retiring in 2015.
David was a gifted and competitive athlete who loved all sports, especially football. He was an enthusiastic Pittsburg Steelers fan.
He pursued higher education earning his Bachelor’s degree in International Business and was working toward his Master’s degree in Sports Management prior to his illness.
Memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later date. David will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Florida.
