David Lee DePew, 77, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Rowan Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Carterville First Baptist Church Building Fund.
David was born on October 22, 1943, in Vandalia, Illinois, to Kenneth A. and Dorothy Louise (Younger) DePew. He married Linda Fay Allen on September 11, 1971, in Makanda, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda DePew of Carterville; daughters, Sarah Moran (fiancé Lawrence Crosby) of Harrisburg, and Faye Habeck of Carterville; grandchildren, William Walsh, Peyton Moran, and Emma Walsh; sisters, Crystal (Tony) Nolan of Holland, Michigan, and Debbie (Alan) Mighell of Anna; sister-in-law, Awanda House of Murphysboro; several nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
He honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy overseas in Vietnam, from 1965-1967.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Carterville, where he volunteered with the Bear Ministries.
David retired after 32 years of service as a Building Custodian at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
David enjoyed going fishing, listening to country music, and cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was a talented artist who made and sold crafts at local fairs. David’s greatest joy in life was his family.
