Daralyn Louise Sheppard, 89, of Herrin, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Goldman officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Herrin Food Pantry.
Daralyn was born on September 26, 1934, in Williamson County, Illinois, to Henry Oscar and Olivia E. (Uhley) Fries. She married Russell Lee Sheppard on April 11, 1952, in Arkansas. He preceded her death in October 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sheppard of Herrin; sons, James “Bud” Sheppard of Crainville, Ronald (Brenda) Sheppard of Vienna, and Paul Sheppard (Dana Lantrip) of Herrin; grandchildren, Debra (Jay) Cox, Kenneth Johnson, Jeremy Sheppard, Jason (Crystal) Sheppard, Jared Sheppard, and Jacob Sheppard; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Sidney Moore, Eyen Sheppard, Honor Sheppard, Breslyn Sheppard, Hunter Sheppard, Gunner Sheppard, and Dax Sheppard; 6 step great great-grandchildren; great-great-granddaughter, Madilyn Grace Moore.
Daralyn was preceded by her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
She was a factory worker for Allen Industries, Diagraph, Smoler Brothers and Universal Match Company. Daralyn also worked at the Rushville Museum.
She was a faithful member of the Herrin First Baptist Church where she served as the Chairman of the Herrin First Baptist Church for the Herrin Food Pantry. Daralyn was fondly known as the “Egg Lady”. She also was on the Board of Directors for the Herrin Food Pantry and volunteered with Meals on Wheels Program in Rushville.
Daralyn was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed quilting and doing volunteer work.
