Danny Rolla Reed

Danny Rolla Reed, 87, of Blairsville, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Jeannie Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Faith Chapel Church in Blairsville.

Danny was born July 17, 1935, in Boskydell, to Rolla Daniel and Bessie (Bush) Reed. He married Ethel Sue Childers on June 18, 1955, in DeSoto. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2000.

He is survived by his sons, Danny Gene Reed and Larry Reed; grandsons, Rolla (Lori) Reed, John Reed, Larry (Vicky) Reed, and Paul Reed; great-grandchildren, Christian, Jason and Trinity Reed; brothers, Edward (Barbara) Reed, James (Peggy) Reed, and Curtis Reed, all of Cambria, and Thomas (Charlotte) Reed of Jackson, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel Reed; sisters, Pearl Jean Morrison, Laura Weller, and Ruth Morgan; and daughters-in-law, Lisa Reed and Joyce Reed.

He was a member of Faith Chapel Church in Blairsville where he served as a janitor as well as lawn maintenance for many years.

He had worked at Century Sports in Carbondale for over 35 years. Danny had also worked for the City of Blairsville’s Water Department over 40 years.

Danny was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, and trap game. He truly enjoyed working outside- from tending to a large garden to farming the land.
