Dale was an avid sports fan who loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and he particularly enjoyed basketball, golf and football. He was part of the "chain gang" for football games at Carterville High School and SIUC.

He also liked to make clocks and tinker in his shop. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids.
