Charles “Chuck” Morrison Hedges, 70, of Carterville, went to Heaven to make the landscaping more beautiful than ever and meet His Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. T.J. Gentry officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Chuck’s family requests that you wear very colorful island attire to his services.

Chuck was born July 3, 1952, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Charles M. and Dottie J. (King) Hedges. He married Deborah “Debbie” Jackson on December 25, 1971, in Flushing, Ohio. Together they shared over 50 wonderful years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah “Debbie” Hedges of Carterville; daughters, Dottie “Dee” (Patrick) Austin of Marion, and Danielle (Travis) Hope of Carterville; the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Chase Allen and Abigail Elizabeth Austin, both of Marion, and Knox Morrison and Nash Allen Hope, both of Carterville; sister-in-law, Cindy Durant of Zanesville, Ohio; brother-in-law, Larry Moore of St. Clairsville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many good friends, especially his “Golf Gang”.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diana Hedges; in-laws, Arthur and Elaine Jackson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janis King, Patti Moore, Art Jackson, and Gary Jackson.
He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force from 1971-1975.
Chuck and Debbie opened up their home on Lakeshore to many neighborhood kids and especially the friends of their daughters over the years. He loved life and was such a people person. Chuck never met a stranger, and would always greet everyone with his big, radiant smile.
Chuck worked at Consol #5 Coal Mine for 19 years, while working his passion of landscape design. He had a creative mind that he got from his mother who had been featured in Better Homes and Gardens. He was the owner of Hedges Landscaping and owned and operated Family Tree in Carbondale. He had many special employees that he mentored and loved very much.
Chuck loved to travel with his wife. He was always searching for the best places to eat wherever he was. They especially enjoyed Nashville and had planned to retire to Marco Island, Florida.
He was cofounder of the 1st Jaycee Chapter where many wonderful memories were made. Chuck served as President of the Carterville Booster Club. He gave his heart and soul to helping his children and community be the best they can be.
Chuck’s favorite past time was his children and grandchildren. He loved going to his grandson and granddaughter’s baseball and softball games and was their biggest fan and supporter. There was nothing in this world more important to him than his family. Chuck had a special laugh and infectious smile that will never be forgotten.
