Charles Loren William Skaggs

Charles “Charlie” Loren William Skaggs, 67, of Galatia and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020, at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2020, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, with Pastor Chris Winkleman officiating. Covid-19 restrictions will apply.

Charlie was born November 8, 1953, in Harrisburg, to Charles Preston “Charlie” Skaggs II and Ethelina (Smith) Skaggs.  Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Ann Skaggs Phelps of Eldorado.

He is survived by his nieces, Martha Ethelina Williams of Mustang, Oklahoma; Sally Lucile (Larry) Callahan of Mustang, Oklahoma; Susan Devlin of Dallas, Texas; and Emily Racliff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nephew, Joe Weinstock of Calabasas, California; numerous cousins, Joe Skaggs of Norris City, Illinois; Carolyn Sue Stobart of Danville, Illinois; Thomas Sherman Reynolds Skaggs II of Mahomet, Illinois; John Francis Stobart of Joliet, Illinois; Jerome Donley (Jerry) Skaggs of Richmond, Virginia; William Brock Skaggs of Venice, Florida; Frank Skaggs Stobart of St. Louis, Missouri; Dr. Charles Earl Seten II of South Carolina; Mary Beth Seten of Graves Lake, Illinois; and numerous other cousins including special cousin, John Skaggs and Ann Taylor of Vienna, Illinois.

Charlie graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1972. He was a loyal fan of the Harrisburg Bulldogs and was a drummer with the band and the “terrible twenty” jazz band. He was a great lover of music: from attending concerts to collecting recordings. Charlie also loved watching movies at the theater and on television. He went on to earn an Associate Degree at Southeastern Illinois College and had attended Southern Illinois University.

Charlie was an active member of First Baptist Church in Harrisburg where he spent time volunteering and teaching.

He worked as a pharmacy tech alongside his father at Charlie Skaggs Pharmacy in Harrisburg for many years. Charlie retired as manager of the Holiday Inn in Marion.
