Charlene Patricia (Dales) Johnson

Charlene Patricia Johnson, 85, of Herrin, formerly of Sandwich, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

She was born November 12, 1937, in Aurora, Illinois, to Dutson William and Isabelle (Powers) Dales. She married Guy Johnson on April 1, 1967, in Aurora, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on February 8, 2001.

Charlene is survived by her daughter, Julie (Neil) Hubert of Sugar Grove, Illinois; son, Jeff (Gail) Johnson of Carterville, Illinois; grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Jaycie Johnson, Brett Hubert, and Taylor Hubert; sisters, Audrey Reedy, and Barbara (Gary) Johnson; sister-in-law, Nannie Johnson; dear friend, Cindy Aschemann; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Janet Albright.

Charlene graduated in 1955 from West Aurora High School and began working at the Aurora Credit Bureau, where she was employed for more than 20 years. In 1976, the family moved to Sandwich where she worked in the high school cafeteria for many years. She loved being around the older kids. She also enjoyed knitting and puzzle books, but her passion was watching football, baseball and golf. She was an avid follower of the Bears and Cubs, almost never missing a game on TV.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date. Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville assisted the family with arrangements.
