Cecil R. Dixon, 92, of Cambria, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at Manor Court in Carbondale, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with her grandsons, Jeffry Dixon and Thad Ellet, officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Cambria Food Pantry or to St. Francis Care.
Cecil was born September 16, 1930, in Carbondale, to Ferrell and Anna Belle (Grimes) Waldron. She married Leonard Ray Dixon on July 31, 1948, in Herrin. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1984.
She is survived by her daughters, Janice Ellet, and Elaine Welch; son, David Dixon; grandchildren, Thad (Kate) Ellet, Megan Welch, Sunni Welch, Jeffry (Ashley) Dixon, Brian (Erin) Dixon, Aaron (Toni) Dixon, Stephanie Dixon, and Jamie (Keith) Trout; great-grandchildren, Grant Ellet, Miles Ellet, Isaac Dixon, Connor Dixon, Madelyn Dixon, Makenzie Olson, Kashton Trout, Emerson Dixon, and Rowan Dixon; plus, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cecil was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Virgil Waldron; sons-in-law, Charlie Ellet and Bruce Welch.
She retired from SIU as a cook, after 15 years of service.
She was a member of Faith Chapel Church in Blairsville and was baptized there on December 2, 1990.
Cecil enjoyed being outdoors, reading, doing word search puzzles, but most of all spending time with her family.
